John Paul Wohlschied asks:
I’m a big fan of World War II combat simulators and I would like to try something sci-fi. I have a USB joystick that I would love to use to control a space fighter or a starship. I don’t have much money to spend, so I’m looking for cheap or free. I am open to suggestions.

September 21, 2012You can give Orbiter a shot. It can utilize a joystick controller and it is free. There are additional downloads for higher detail textures and maps if you have a decent system & video card.
i had the same question. can you please tell me some more options becasue i have tried Orbiter and no doubt it’s great but i want to know some more space and aircraft simulators.

Can’t give you any recommendation as the only thing I have played in that regard was Wing Commander IV which is ~not really a simulation.
September 21, 2012Good advice. There are several freeware games listed on that page, including a Babylon 5 fan game. Thanks.

September 23, 2012Well Decent FreeSpace was a good Space Flight sim per say and you can probably get it really cheap. X-Wing Alliance was a Star wars space flight battle sim. Pretty good too. Both are older games with decent graphics and can probably found cheap.
