I have just 5.3MB of data on my phone’s memory, but the phone memory shows 34MB of memory used and claims no memory is left. How can I format my phone’s memory to free up space without deleting my contacts? I need to keep them safe at any cost. My phone is a Nokia C3-00

if your hard reset the phone then you will do it.
dial : *#7370# it will format your phone memory

Hi, without backing up, all you can do is soft reset, as I said

    in the previous question.

    hard reset will require backup.

you do not have a pc, and you want to keep your contacts.
    you ave these options :

1.transfer contacts to another phone using sync and backup. and transfer back after formatting.
    2. Copy contacts to your sim card or better if you have other simcards. (it will work in case,  you have less number of contacts)

I suggest you use a pc with nokia pc suite from a friend, cyber cafe ,or visit nokia care or the place from where your purchased the cell.
they may do it for free even if the warranty is expired, because it is just a matter of copying and pasting.

Many c3 users have this common problem of not being able to remove data. so even after formatting memory, it may not remove the extra data.and you should also check that is there any application etc that is using your phone memory.soft reset  :  dial :*#7780#  (try if it helps )
hard  reset : dial : dial : *#7370# (don't do it wiothout backing up your contacts and other data)

you can try a reset but not a hard reset, this can free some places, memory
To Soft reset you can simply type in the code *#7780#
if you are prompted to enter a password, enter your mobile password (note : the default password is 12345)

to backup Nokia use OviSuite from nokia

Continuing from your previous question, Jay last mentioned a soft reset or hard reset, What was the outcome?

Actually he cannot use hard reset, without a backup or a pc.
else he will lose his contacts.

so first,he should try soft reset.

He will need sim card(s), or another phone to transfer contacts, for hard reset, if a pc is not available.

I was trying to briefly sum up your comment and refer back to the original question :) Guess I was a little hasty and too short.
