Where does this folder appear?

All I could find is related to Firefox and it’s search bar. But it’s folder “searchplugins” should reside within the Firefox profile directory.

Plug ins usually is related to some applications, and the application is browser. Browser has lots of plugins to install, example: java plugins, adobe flash plugins., etc So the Searchplugins folder is a place to put the plug ins installer as temporary, after download the plug ins, it will be installed automatically using that folder. It may happens when there are a missing plug in related to your application/browser. So, you don’t need to worry about it. Thank you

Is there an error message with this folder?
If so it may be a corrupted searchplugin.dll problem.

Mike

Have the same problem. Just started today out of no-where.

Whenever opening ANY file (word, excel, pdf, autocad, notepad, anything) a new folder named “searchplugins” is created in the same folder where the file is stored.

The folder is empty, and can be deleted, but appears everytime you open a file. (multiple new folders is NOT created as long as there is one folder named searchplugins in the folder where the file is.)

any ideas?

Check if MS Office has any addins installed. The might be storing data.Else it may be a virus that is creating this folder.Try scanning your PC with antivirus and anti-malware.

First of all, sorry for my bad English, i’m Austrian

I think i have the solution of this problem, the folder searchplugins appeared on my PC since yesterday and i tried to open some files for testing. Since now no new searchplugins folder was created.

Look at your Task-Manager if a Prozess called bProtect is running.
Maybe you must show Tasks of all users.
When the process is running look at C/ProgrammData for a folder called bProtect for Windows or something like that. You can’t delete this Folder in normal windows mode. Restart your PC-F8 safe mode and delete this F*cking Folder.
This was succesful to get rid of searchplugin folder

Don’t delete this while booting your PC in normal mode as this will cause some problems in your PC which utilizes this file.As Franz said, just boot into safe mode by pressing F8 or delete button(depends upon manufacturer) and delete that file.

Every time I shut down my computer icons called search plugins appear, sometimes one or two. They are always empty. Where do they come from and how can I get rid of them permanently?

I fixed it by instead of deleting the folder i made it hidden (right click, properties, general, hidden tick the box then press apply) so it is still there so the computer wont make more but you cant see it
