How can I fix a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error?
Question by Woody Harris /

When booting to Windows Vista Serv Pak2 64-bit I get error dialog box just before login screen.

Box says: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library, Runtime error! Program: C:\windows\system32\nvvsvc.exe This app has requested the rumtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the app support team for more information.

When I click “ok” the PC goes to the login screen and I can enter password and move on to my desktop. This occurs every time I boot up the PC. Any assistance on this issue would be very appreciated! Thanks, Woody

The problem seems to be due to a corruption in the registry. You can try to reinstall windows or you can try this simple fix:

I have had this very same problem but I recovered my computer using the instruction there.

the problem appeared after i swapped my nvidia card from pcie x16 to x8 and back again, trying to install a second ati card.
setting the nvidia driver in services to manual did help! thanks a lot!

nvvsvc.exe is a Windows Vista service installed with systems having NVIDIA gpus. It deals with advanced features of you NVIDIA graphics card, such as overclocking and dual monitor display. It is also needed if you have configured your computer to go into Sleep Mode or Hibernation.

This service has been known to use too much memory. To check if this is the cause of your problem try following steps:

    -reboot computer.
-press the F8 key repeatedly when rebooting.
    -Select Safe Mode.
    -Select account
-Right-click on the Desktop and select Personalize.
    -Click Display Settings.
-Adjust the Resolution slider to the left.
    -Click OK.
    -Restart in normal mode.

If the step above did not fixed your problem you can try disabling the service by following the steps provided:

    start>> run>> type services.msc>> highlight nvvsvc>>right click>> properties>> startup tab>> pick disable>> apply>> ok

or you might try setting the service to manual:

    start>> search>> type services.msc>> highlight nvvsvc>> right click>> properties>> startup tab>> pick manual>> apply>> ok

If you disable the service, restart your system and see if the error reappears.
This service sometimes uses to much memory usage. If excessive memory usage is causing your problem try the following steps:

    -reboot computer.
-press the F8 key repeatedly when rebooting.
    -Select Safe Mode.
    -Select account to login
-Right-click on the Desktop and select Personalize.
    -Click Display Settings.
-Adjust the Resolution slider to the left.
    -Click OK.
    -Restart in normal mode.

      Fedelis,
Thank you so much for your kind assistance. I went to the services.msc and set my Nvidia drvr line to manual, and Nvidia stereoscopic 3D line to disabled. Then I rebooted and the error dialog box is gone! You made my day, thank you. :)
