Norman Padilla asks:
I restored my PC, a Samsung N150, now I can’t boot. While it was restoring I got tired waiting for it so I cancelled it and now it is saying the “boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible”.
I want to fix it but i don’t know how to so please help me! Thanks.

July 26, 2012Try changing the boot device priority to boot from HDD first by going into BIOS and see whether it helps or not.

July 26, 20121. try safe mode > last known good configuration might help.
2. did you restore via system restore or system image restore?
If you tried system image restore then try rebooting it again from the repair disc or windows installation disc and if it boots try restoring it again.
3.Or if you have windows installation disc try a repair install:> boot to system recovery option
and at the top there will be startup repair

July 26, 2012Do not EVER do that again, if you don’t want to lose your data
The bad news is that you have lost your data and it’s very difficult, or impossible I guess, to restore your OS and data to its former glory!
The good news is that if you have multiple partittions, data in those partitions, except the system partition you installed Windows on, can still be used. You just have to reinstall your Windows and this time, please, don’t cancel while setup is running
HTH.

July 26, 2012reset cmos battery also if it helps after changing device boot priority from BIOS.
if restoring failed then you have to do it again, or boot from windows cd choose upgrade, in this case you have to reactivate Windows with gebuine License if it fails then activate by phone!

July 26, 2012All you have to do is insert the CD of the OS you have and repair your windows Installation. Should Fix it in a flash
In case your laptop doesn’t have a CD ROM you can use a bootable USB as well.

July 26, 2012Look into BIOS and see if boot device priority has changed and fix it if changed.

July 26, 2012(…continued) By “fixing” of course I meant selecting your HDD/SSD as the first boot device.

July 26, 2012There could be a lot of things going on. So, let’s begin with the easiest ones to do and check.
1. What “required device” is the computer talking about? Is it your hard drive? To check, go into your BIOS to see what devices are present in the computer. If the hard drive is missing, it just might be that the connectivity to the hard drive is at issue. You may want to take out the hard drive, then put it back in, making sure the physical connection seems ok.
2. Do the above for the CD/DVD drive, if that can be easily done.
3. If the BIOS shows some other devices you know are not attached (floppy drive, USB flash drive), disable these temporarily.
4. Turn-off the computer, then restart it. If it doesn’t work, then . . .
Level 2
Try the steps outlined on Microsoft’s Answer website (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/windows-7-bootmgr-is-missing-resolved-using-winre/8bb148bc-8035-4847-9696-888f7a0a9720). If this doesn’t work, . . .
Level 3
Do you have another computer? Is your laptop hard drive working (that is, it turns-on and does not make continuous clicking sounds!)? If yes to both, then . . .
1. Purchase a SATA-IDE-USB conector (such as the one here: http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-CB-ISATAU2-Supports-2-5-Inch-5-25-Inch/dp/B000J01I1G OR HERE – http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002).
2. Remove the hard drive from the laptop, connect it to adapter, then connect adapter to your other computer. Then, download/purchase an imaging program (download trial version of Norton Ghost OR look at the Acronis True Image WD Edition from http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119), install on your other computer, and extract IMAGE of your laptop drive. Make sure you are able to retrieve individual files from the image (VERY IMPORTANT STEP).
3. Put drive back in laptop, then re-install Windows FROM SCRATCH . . . i.e., delete old partition, create new one, then install Windows.
4. Once installed, take out drive from laptop. Connect again to other computer.
5. From the image you created earlier, copy ALL files / folders EXCEPT HIDDEN folders and files in the root (these are system and boot files from the old laptop hard drive. These are already installed after the Windows install in step 3 above).
6. Put laptop hard drive back into laptop. You should have the same Windows you had, with all programs intact, prior to the hard-drive crash.
I did the above steps for a client’s computer without a hitch. I used Norton Ghost Trial Version v 15.0.
Hope this helps. Feel free to contact back if can be of further help.
