Samrudh Shetty asks:
I want to start a blog. And I want pictures to use it on. How can I find some that are available for free?

March 28, 2012Flickr lets you search for photos that are available under the Creative Commons license. That’s a good place to find free images. You often have to credit them and sometimes aren’t allowed to modify them, but those restrictions usually aren’t a problem.
If you are blogging about a product made by a company, the company will often offer press photos that you can use free of charge. They can be found in a company’s press relations page.

March 28, 2012As Matt said, Flickr is a great resource. Many of the images I use here on MakeUseOf are taken from Flickr following Creative Commons guidelines (be sure to check the license for each image you’re thinking of using).
but how to check images licence on flickr or many other images sites.
April 8, 2012It’s all about narrowing the search only for CC images. Both Flick and Google Images allows you to do this.

March 28, 2012Google search the topic you are interested in, in the left hand column click ‘images’, on the top right click ‘options’, click ‘advanced search’, scroll down to ‘usage rights’ and click on the box.
You can now filter the results to show various license types.

March 29, 2012CompFight is a Flickr search tool that can help:
http://compfight.com/
Make sure to select the appropriate license when searching on CompFight or Flickr.
Remember that you will have to credit the images in your blog post!
Ok then after finding the photo we should download and put the credits is it right?
March 29, 2012Yup. As long as it’s Creative Commons-licensed, you should download it, upload it to your web server and use it in your post.
At some point in the post — either near the photo or at the bottom of the article, you’ll have to include a link giving credit. Check out the bottom of this post: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/difference-worm-trojan-virus-makeuseof-explains/
See what I did in the “Image Credit” section there? That’s the kind of thing you should do.
March 29, 2012i saw your post of trojan virus etc… how do you download a photo from flickr. i dont see any download link. Do you have to be a friend with the person you are seeing a photo of or what?

April 2, 2012Click the “Actions” menu at the top of the page and select “View All Sizes.” From there, you can select an image size and use the Download link.
