its my pleasure to answer this question , because i have been a Firefox user right from its inception and for me Firefox is The Gateway to WWW.

    lets start --

1-- Block Scripting and eventually potential script exploits that can seriously hamper your security . highly recommended . No Script  (  http://noscript.net/  )

    2-- Be sure where you surf . WOT  (  https://www.mywot.com/   )

    3--  Manage  , Store and Generate Secure passwords safely  (  https://lastpass.com/  )

    4-- Block the ones who track you . Ghostery . ( http://www.ghostery.com/  )

5-- Enforce Secure HTTPS protocol on all supported sites . HTTPS Everywhere (  https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere  )

6-- Manage and Delete the Daddy of all cookies , the Flash LSO.s which are hard to delete that easily and can very easily and persistently track you . Better Privacy (  http://netticat.ath.cx/extensions.html   )

7-- Scramble your Key Strokes and prevent malicious programs and codes from tapping your Key Strokes . Key Scrambler (   http://www.qfxsoftware.com/   )

8-- Tweak FireFox for even more speed , Faster Fox Lite (  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fasterfox-9148/  )

9-- A multi utility tool . Flagfox (  http://flagfox.net/  ) . as the name says , its identifies the country of the site hosting server , and many more tools like , Alexa Analysis , McAfee safe web , Down for me or not , URL shortener , PING the site , and many more ..

10-- Clean up the Firefox database places . as it can build up from regular use and eventually slow down browsing . Places Cleaner (  https://code.google.com/p/placescleaner/  )

11- Clean up the redundant entries left behind from uninstalled extensions . ecleaner (  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ecleaner/  )

    12-- An Ad Blocker (  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ )  ( although personally i dont use it  )

13-- and some Visual customizers --
    --My Fav -- Stratiform  (  http://spewboy.deviantart.com/  )
    --and the classic Personas  (  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/personas-plus/  )
--user scripts for visual changes . Stylish (  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/  )
14-- Make the web page your play ground .as you want it .GreaseMonkey (  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/  )

barring a few minor ( but of course useful ) ,
these are all i think are quite useful ...!!

    hope it helps ...!

    happy surfing ..!

sorry for the long list ,
but getting 3 favs out of a millions of Firefox Add Ons Available is i think ,
      quite unjustified .

these are the most useful Firefox Add Ons in my opinion , and each covers a different aspect of the Usability .
Each one is the best in what it does !

so going by a Holistic approach and covering different requirements for making the WWW a safe and better and more enjoyable place to be at ,
with the Help of Firefox and its Add ons ,
the list was presented ..!  :)

      and i think ,
to give all the add ons a fare chance of entry into the final compiled list , ( a list which actually makes the Firefox even better in totality ) ,
the ques header should be -- Most Useful Firefox Add ons ..!

      thanks ...

      mj ..
