Using proxies is NOT illegal or unethical if you are using them at home or at an internet cafe. Using one at home is kind of senseless unless you are paranoid about your isp. At an internet cafe, they make a little more sense although you can't install any kind of VPN software on a cafe's computer. One alternative for "safe" browsing from work (assuming you don't get in trouble for doing this in the first place) or elsewhere is to install a free VPN/proxy software on a home PC that is always connected to the internet and use it as your own private VPN/Proxy service.

Using proxies is illegal and unethical. There is a loop hole were you can use https://www.facebook.com and it will possibly work, but if you are caught you will get in a lot of trouble. If you are at work or school I would not recommend trying to bypass any blocks or security systems in place. You will get caught and in will be in major trouble.
