Can I use my early 2010 27″ iMac as a monitor for video and gaming?

Nhan Nguyen asks:

Can I connect HD and SD video devices like PS3 (HDMI) and Wii (RCA) to an iMac? I would like to use my Mac’s screen to play games and watch video from other sources, but I do not want to use an Elgato EyeTV, which introduces lag.

Any suggestions?

From the following forums, the users provided descriptive video links and suggested one product which is cost effective and it works -

The forum link below suggest that Kanex XD is the best hardware adapter to be used for connecting PS3.

This cable will do the job I believe, though I havent tried myself so cannot guarantee. http://estore.circuitassembly.com/products/Mini-Displayport-to-Displayport-Adapter-Cable.html

You also need to restart your mac in target display mode

(note, mid-2011 imac 27″ will not work – only via thunderbolt cable, which is obviously useless for HDMI things)

my bad, you do also need one of these: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=508267

Based on what I’ve read through links provided here, I’ll start with the Kanex, then the Belfan. Either way, I’ll still need an additional RCA to HDMI adapter, as you and James Bruce suggest.
