I need to copy my DVDs to Mac G4 HD in best possible quality with subtitles to play and also as potential future back up to blank DVD. I have tried MacX DVD Ripper Mac and Handbreak, which take enormous time to copy a DVD movie. The copy should have the option of choosing particular scene or subtitle just like normal DVD.

If you want to copy (clone) a DVD you can use Disk Utility

MacX and Handbreak are transcoders: They encode the original DVD to a different format. Of course this process does take a lot of time, especially on an old G4.
So will any other software which encodes the video from the original MPEG2 VOB to another container and codec.

Handbreak does have options for audio, subtitles and chapters.
