How can I download YouTube videos with Google Chrome and Orbit Downloader?

Sanjay asks:

Try as I might, I am not able to get Orbit Downloader to download a youtube video.

I have seen the tutorial that says that one is supposed to get a “getit” button on hovering mouse over the video. I did not get this button after much effort. I may mention that I have opened “Grab ++” and set preference on monitoring by clicking the “chrome” option in the monitoring tab. I still don’t get “getit” button on hovering over youtube video on youtube page.

Searched internet, searched orbit website, no use. I am supposed to get this button but not getting it.

I tried Internet Explorer. Flash Video is not supported by 64 bit OS which I have so IE does not play the youtube video at all.

Someone experienced with Orbit downloader – please help !!!

If you are still having problems, just download the free Real Player (http://www.real.com). It will give you a “download this video” over most videos, works on all browsers and let’s you chose the download format.
You can also just use web services such as:
http://keepvid.com
or
http://vixy.net

There are 3 ways (including using Firefox) to download YouTube videos directly to your computer. Leave Orbit downloader; you will not need that.

There is a website, one Firefox plugin & a freeware for this. Check out complete details at http://www.computers.helpof.com/3-ways-to-download-youtube-videos/

Thanks. Eventually that is exactly what I will do – use either Real Player or some other service.

But I get bothered by the fact that I cannot make a good software work. Orbit is highly recommended by this makeuseof website and I would like to be able to make Orbit work for me.

Will still appreciate if someone could tell me what might possibly be wrong with Orbit on my PC.

I would personally recommend xVideoServiceThief. That’s what I have been using for a long time now. Plenty of options download pause/resume, video conversion, video quality etc etc

We are also listing it in 15 Must-Have Free Software Programs for Your PC.

Sanjay

Aibek,

First off, my compliments on creating a great website. I am a regular visitor since I first came here less than a week back.

I used xVideoServiceThief first. The reason was – I had great experience with other programs recommended by you and so I thought highly of your recommendations and still do so.

However, xVideoServiceThief gave me other problems – it would stop downloading the video after a few seconds / minutes / MBs and and an error message would popup. I do not remember exactly what the error message said. Then I searched your other recommendations and zeroed in on Oribit.

I have used Real Player before this and I am not so much pressed for options for downloading. But I want the lightest option (My laptop is not the heaviest on configuration) that works. Also, I am badly bothered if I cannot make a good program work. xVideoServiceThief was one failure and I hate it that I have another on hand.

BTW, I have all your recommendations that I needed to use for my work (some I did before I joined this site), and I am happy with all those that I installed except a video downloader. So help me make this work if possible.

Hey Sanjay

Did you try Youtube Downloader ( http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/ ).
I haven’t used it personally but considering that it’s one of the most
downloaded apps on Download.com I think there must something good about it.

when downloading videos there should be an option in the downloader to
save the video in other format.

using orbit downloader it is flv, so after you download from orbit you have to use flv converter so that you can download it on your cd or dvd

I am not sure if the Orbit going to work on Grroveshark, but in case it
doesn’t try ScreamerRadio.

I suspect the audio quality may be an issue.

Leela,

I recommend you look at the answers to these questions:

Grooveshark

If that doesn’t answer your question, I suggest that you ask a new question.

Thanks, I finally turned to Firefox.Works great, couldnt get it to work on Chrome though. They should fix that, cause its great besides that. Orbit+Grooveshark works a lot better and faster than traditional programs like Limewire or Ares, and it’s a shame that it doesnt work on Chrome.

There are a ton of free programs to download YouTube videos including swapping browsers to use firefox plugins. I like the Orbit program and use it on other sites besides YouTube and it works great when it works. I have a 64-bit windows system and I use Chrome, but I cannot get the program to work with Chrome at all! Windows 7 comes with a 64-bit ie browser but as you know Flash doesn’t work in 64-bit. What I have to do is go to “all programs” under the start menu and use the 32-bit ie browser which you should also have and Orbit works fine-including the “getit” hover button. I hope Orbit will fix this issue and if it is too much of a hassle to swap browsers every time you want to download something then you should look into another program.
