Why does my download disappear at the end, just after “Security scan”?

I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C-50 with Windows 8. I have been trying to download the driver for my Canon Powershot SX280 from their website so I can connect to my computer to upload photos (on my previous Windows Vista PC I  used a disc). When I try to download the driver, it appears to be proceed and at the end of the download, it says ‘security scan’. From there on, all I get is a flashing empty web site page coming up and a flashing buffering sign and absolutely nothing else happens. There is no error message. I have tried turning off firewall. I done have everything I can think of!

Embarrassed to say - just connecting camera to computer! I just assumed it would have to be something complicated, Thank you again.

Hello, have you tried connecting the camera to see if windows can find a driver for you?

    there was Browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone
This preference is no longer available since at least Firefox 31
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Download_Manager_preferences

    you can search for browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled
    Possible values and their effects
    [edit]
    True
Download data about malware and use it to screen downloads. (Default)
    [edit]
    False
Do not download malware blacklists and do not check downloads.

1)On the search bar type about:config and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type: malware while the list is filtered check browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled
3)right click on it and choose toggle
    see if this will help
