Why can’t I download books from a CD to my friend’s Kindle?

I purchased a CD with 25 books from eBay and successfully downloaded them on my Kindle. I have tried to put the same CD on a friend’s Kindle, but don’t seem to be able to. Can it be used again?

I suppose you couldn’t do this again on your friend kindle fire. This doesn’t obey the use rule.
