Can I dial numbers from Outlook using an IP phone and router in a home office without a server?

James Messiha asks:

I work from home. I want to attach an IP Phone to my internet router (Cisco SPA525G2) and be able to use it to dial numbers from Outlook running on my PC. Can this be done without a server?

If the IP Phone comes with some software or plugin that integrates with Outlook this should be possible. But by default Outlook doesn’t ‘play’ with other means of communication be it an IP phone or a VoIP software.

Cisco Phones support this with the help of a software called call manager express.

If your IP phone vendor provides any plugin for outlook you can dial from opening contacts from outlook.
