What can I use to develop a GUI for a BlackBerry application?

Priya Kotwal asks:

Besides built-in Java GUI classes, what technology can I use to develop a GUI for a BlackBerry application? How do I check the BBM services on the simulator if I want to use those services in the application? The simulator I’m using is the BlackBerry Curve 9300 version 6.0.0.534 running BlackBerry OS 6.

You can use HTML 5, C++ or Java. The native SDK is actually in C++. Additionally, Blackberry supports Adobe Air & Flex development. Flex is a very popular UI framework, in fact many of the popular applications you see (even outside of mobile phones) such as Spotify use Flex for its interfaces.
