How can I use my desktop or notebook as a wireless hotspot for other devices?

Ahmed Jamal asks:

Is there a way to use the data connection on my computer as a wireless hotspot, so that my other device like mobile phones can connect to this network for web surfing and downloading files or apps? I know this hotspot feature is available in most mobile phones today, but is this type of feature also available for computers?

The most popular choices to turn your computer or notebook into a hotspot are Connectify and Virtual Router.

There is also articles about Virtual Router here on MUO.

Virtual Router requires Windows 7 or later, Connectify also works with Windows XP but only allows a Ad-hoc (single device to device) connection there.
Both obviously require your computer having a Wireless card installed.
