Why can’t I delete a conversation using my iPhone’s Twitter app?

So the “Other” bar in my iPhone capacity has been taking up a lot of space on my phone, and I learned that in there it consists of SMS messages. I get alerts to my phone from Twitter, so I have a lot of text messages from one contact.

I’ve been trying to delete the conversation to remove some of the space “Other” takes up on my phone, but after I click the delete button (swiping and the edit button) it stays dark like a button does after pressing it, but it stays like that for a long time. Twitter won’t let me exit or close the screen and I have to manually restart my phone each time. Help?
