I’ve seen many people who have changed Windows XP. They’ve changed the colors of Windows menu bars, changed the names of windows, changed the wallpaper, and more. How can I do this?

Before changing any feature make a restore point so that to revert to a stable windows state.

Hello, the easiest way to change how windows menus look is by doing the following:

    -- click on desktop background
    -- select properties
-- click on the appearance tab
-- click on the Advanced Tab
-- Under the header Item, click on the arrow
-- highlight the item you want to change
-- play with the colors and depending on the item the font

To change your background follow the steps below.  You can either use the default backgrounds provided or add you own backgrounds/pictures:

-- right click on desktop background
    -- select properties
    -- click on desktop
-- select any of default background pictures or you can browse to a picture that you like
-- click on apply and then ok

To change or set your screensaver to a screensaver that comes with XP or set your own with pictures you can do the following:

-- right click on desktop background
    -- select properties
    -- select screen saver tab
-- select one of the screen savers provided or if you click on the My Pictures Slideshow you can set your on screen saver with several of your pictures.
-- click on settings to see if there any you can change
-- set the time when screen saver comes on in minutes
    -- click on ok

For themes follow the same steps as above and select one of the default themes or you can look for more.  If you download different themes, you can also get different color schemes.  XP only comes with three color schemes, blue, gray and green.

Now, if you want a theme with transparency and several other things, you will have to browse online and find a theme you like.  Make sure that you look in reputable sites because there are many riddled with spyware/malware.  The following provides several customizations for your XP computer.  When you visit the site, make sure to head over to the Bricopacks.  Make sure before you make any changes to your system, to create a system restore and make a backup.

The best you can do is asking them which software/tools they use, so you can exactly get whatever you like, without searching or downloading, they can give you the set up :)

to change entire look, you can change themes:
    or
go to desktop>> right click>> porperties>>themes>>change the theme to Zune>>or classic

    go to desktop>> right click>> properties>>appearance>>
you will get options according to the theme applied.

I like ancient classic theme of windows 98:)
it will let you change the colors of fonts, windows, set the fonts, size spacing etc.

and you can change your wallpaper by going to desktop tab and select a picture. (may be you know that already:)
webshots desktop is a really nice option I used years ago. not aware of updates.

I am not sure what windows name do you want to change ?
You can rename my computer and documents to Jay's computer and Jay's documents :)

you can install windows vista, windows 7 theme, or themes for xp may be.
said official xp themes : http://www.iniyant.com/download-official-windows-xp-themes-for-free

you are likely to get a virus from a theme setup as noticed in some cases.
you may use software like tuneup utility etc which allow you to change your log on screen and all.
use this site : http://www.systemtheme.com, I am not aware about the security and quality.

you can install software like tune up utility,
may be others can add some great software ,
but I do not use any external options, I use classic theme only, and use internal options. :)
