Why can’t I copy and paste files to my hard drive?
Question by Hamid /

I have a Western Digital hard drive. I was using it for Windows and I have files and pictures and videos on it. Now, I can open it but I can’t copy or paste anything to it. I don’t want to reformat and lose my files. How can I fix the drive?

you can try the free version of

    SuperCopier

Right click the drive then properties.
Go to tools tab and check for errors.

    or
At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

Hello, does drag and drop work?  Have you tried starting your computer in safe mode and see if you can copy/paste like that?

Is it possible for you to plug the external to a different computer and check if you can copy/paste there?  If you try this and it works in the other computer, that would rule out the drive being damaged somehow.  If it doesn’t work in the other computer either, then chances are there is something going on with drive.

Did you do anything recently? Maybe MS clipboard got corrupted, try restarting. I doubt very highly it has anything to do with your hard disk.
