Why does my computer’s sound die at random times and require a restart to fix?

Ricardo Cao asks:

From time to time I will be listen to a video or song and all of a sudden the audio from my laptop will die, I get no sound using headphones or speakers and in order to get it back i need to restart the computer. I have tried to update the Realtek driver but I’ve already got the latest version, which I have tried re-installing again and the same thing happens every time. It’s getting annoying when I lose my audio and have to restart!

Any suggestion or ideas? Thanks!

When you restart does the song play ok then?
Its sound like your sond card is over heating and may need changing.

perhaps Volume Mixer the level goes down somehow? check that to see if it happen; In this case is driver problem.

1) Click ‘Start’ > Select ‘Control Panel’
2) Type troubleshooting in the top-right search field > Select ‘Troubleshooting’
3) Click ‘Hardware and Sound’ > Select ‘Playing Audio’

-Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar > Select ‘Playback Devices’
-right click on your speakers and choose properties
-Under Enhancements uncheck Disable All Enhancements

I had this problem with a brand new computer. I went nuts trying to figure it out. Finally, I checked the speaker wire, it was shorted out.

It may be caused by software-derived problems.
Keep your sound driver up-to-date so as to get your computer and devices working in harmony. Try this driver navigator. It can auto detect and download missing and unknown device drivers, repair incompatible or corrupted drivers and keep your driver up-to-date. It will help you a lot if you want to upgrade a driver, replace a driver, or troubleshoot device problems, especially good for video driver and sound driver. Check Event Viewer when audio fails. It is possible that there is some software related conflict or service failure.

To check Event Viewer, go to Run and type `eventvwr` and hit Enter. In the Event Viewer window on the left side panel collapse Windows logs and check Application and system logs for errors.
