Why are the colors off on my HDTV?

wycliffe asks:

I have an LG TV model 21FU3RG. The colors are off – football field is red, faces are blue, etc. How can I fix this?

adjust the color ratios, play around with the green, red, and blue till you get it back to what you think is normal

PC World has a very good tutorial on how to calibrate HDTVs:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/148462/how_to_calibrate_your_hdtv.html

Also, read this article from Gizmodo which mentions The THX Optimizer, a calibration tool – http://gizmodo.com/5098917/how-to-calibrate-your-new-hdtv-and-not-lose-your-mind

In most cases this is caused by a mismatch of standards or encoding for example if your STB is sending a NTSC signal but the input on the TV (or the entire thing) is set to PAL. Or if your STB is sending an RGB signal wherein the TV expects YUV.

Another example is if using the YPbPr connectors and they are not connected to the same input/output plugs.

if you are using composite cables check if the color code of the cables is correct.
