Why won’t my “Currently” Chrome weather extension show the forecast, and are there alternatives?

Dax Pagan asks:

I really liked the Chrome extension called “Currently” which puts a current time and local weather on my new tabs. However, on one computer, it recently stopped displaying the weather. I wrote to the authors, but have gotten no response.

Does anyone else use Currently? Anyone with the same issue? Solutions?

Are there other similar Chrome extensions that you prefer that would display local weather on a new tab?

Current resolution would be getting new extension. If the developer doesn’t bothers your request, then uninstall its addon.

Try one which works for you.

I’ve been using “Currently” for quite some time. I haven’t experienced any such things as you said. Did you try removing and adding the extension again?

And yeah, regarding other extensions for weather, I think “AccuWeather Forecast” or “Full Screen Weather” are good options in my opinion.

“Currently” is installed and enabled, but doesn’t show up on the Shift+Esc Task Manager. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling – no solution. What can I do?

Thanks to Todd Evans for forwarding the link to “http://rainfalldesign.tumblr.com/”. The authors of Currently had this to say: (And it’s dated August 11, so apparently it’s not fixed yet)

re: Our Weather Service
Hey everyone,

I just wanted to write it down somewhere that we know the weather is not responding properly for some of you and that we are working really hard right now!

In case you are wondering what happened, we were using an API made by Google that provides the weather forecast. We chose this one because it was really simple and free. Unfortunately somebody seems to have turned it off or is throttling our usage of it.

So, we are working hard on getting another API plugged in that works worldwide. We are really sorry for the disruption and have some cool stuff coming along with this fix.

We hope to be back up in a day or two.
