Bumferry asks:
I have many Wi-FI signals all originating from the same building. One is BT OpenZone, another is a free Wi-Fi service I offer customers and the third is a business Wi-Fi broadband account.
The OpenZone always shows on the same Wi-Fi channel as my private network. It sometimes overlaps with the free Wi-Fi I offer.
I have tried to change the channel of my Wi-Fi, but when I do that, the OpenZone then appears to be on the same channel once more. How can I change my Wi-Fi’s channel so that it will be unique?

June 29, 2012It appears that BT’s OpenZone hotspot service is tied to business broadband accounts for those who opt-in to the program. Because of the way they tied the services together, it seems they will always operate on the same channel. You should be able to put the other free WiFi service on a separate channel if you would like by reconfiguring its access point.
Thanks Bruce. This was my initial thought, I was hoping there would be a way to separate the two. The original “free wi-fi” we had on site was linked to the BT Openzone although we cancelled that and a few months later set up our own.
The openzone signal is now attached to our business line which is totally different.
Will try and get in touch with BT to see if they can do anything at their end.
Thanks for your help.

June 29, 2012If encountering interference with a neighbor’s WLAN, change to a distant channel. Both channels 1 and 11 do not overlap with the default channel 6; use one of these three channels for best results.
