Is there a free video recording that will reliably capture video with audio? I am looking to save my favorite movies, music videos on Netflix, Metacafe, Vimeo, etc. Any Ideas?

    I use VSO Downloader ;-

    http://www.vso-software.fr/products/downloader/vso-downloader.php?

a free desktop app that automatically detects streaming video independent of the browser used. You can set it to automatically download any video detected, to just alert you to any video found so you can choose to get it, or you can simply start it for a specific video. It can also be set to convert to other formats as well.

If MakeUseOf manually goes through each question, why do they approve and post questions regarding doing things that are probably not legally allowed where the poster is from? Since they manually approve it, you would think it would give them some liability?

In regards to accomplishing the task as an academic challenge, just for educational purposes, as far as I know, you can't download the streaming content from Netflix. If you are looking for a way to record video content off of your screen, you can use Camtasia(not free) or Cam Studio(free).

I like HiDownload Platinum for the simple reason that it includes a sniffer. The sniffer detects streams of data coming into the browsers and can identify the video stream. You can find it at http://www.hidownload.com/

I don't know if this would be of any help, but I found this after a brief search and it may also mean that you will need to purchase the said program to use.

YouRecorder is a screen capture program both audio and video. It is not free $39), but works well. The capture format is proprietary but the program allows conversion to .avi or .wmv.

If you are using google chrome then go to chrome store and search for keyword "video download".
You will have multiple plugins with help of which you can download meadia on most of the video sites(exception is youtube).
And if you just want to capture the streaming video then download and use camstudio, camstudio is a opensource software. http://www.camstudio.org

    Hope this helps
