Why can’t I update Android on a Chinese Android phone?

I have a Chinese-made original Android phone version 4.0.3. When I open the system updates on the “About phone”, it runs for several minutes and later indicates “network connection failed” although my network connection is superb. Please help me to update it to higher version.

As Agnel says, you'll probably have to root your device in order to update it. This is because Chinese Android handsets aren't officially supported by Google.

Heard of rooting, cynamodgen, custom roms etc. ?. You can update to latest versions of android through http://forum.xda-developers.com/.

When it says that it cannot connect to the servers or network connection failed, it could be from the phone not being able to connect to the proper manufacturer servers that hold the updates, or the servers are down. Chinese manufacturers of devices typically do not offer updates often, or even offer updates at all.

I'd check the manufacturer's website for updates, as Hovsep mentioned, to see if there are even any updates. If updates are not available, then rooting and installing a custom ROM may be the only option to update your phone, that is if your phone has supported custom ROMs and routing methods.
