Why can’t I boot Windows XP from SSD on my PC?

After cloning my disk with dual boot Windows 7 and Windows XP to a Samsung SSD drive my Windows XP will not start .Both OSs are available at boot up and Windows 7 runs fine. However, if I select Windows XP, it hangs at the welcome screen (blue screen with no login icons). I have tried safe mode, but get a similar blue screen with just ‘welcome’ on it. If I put the original drive back in, it works fine.

What to do??

Are XP and 7 on different partitions? If so, make sure that the XP partition is set as "active." Partition utilities on Hiren's Boot CD can check this for you.
(I wouldn't recommend using XP for anything anymore, since the end of support; I'd much rather run XP in a Virtual Machine, so that it couldn't write to anything outside its VHD.)
