If you are talking about a converter box, I would think it would work. If it is a cable, that would not work at all.

HDMI to RCA cable will not work because HDMI only carries digital signal, and RCA only accepts analog signal. In order to do what you would like, you would need to get a digital to analog converter box that would accept HDMI input. They generally run close to $50 or more to get a decent one that would work. Here is a link to Amazon that many people have used for the exact reason you are doing. Never trust a cable to do a job that only a converter can do. http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Composite-S-Video-Converter-3RCA/dp/B0047PDBP0

yes hook it up, most likely if the converter works, it will work in this case too.

Your cable set-top box has an HDMI out and no RCA connectors, and you want to connect that to a CRT TV.

An HDMI to RCA cable will not work. No HDMI ‘cable’ can convert the digital media to RCA signals. That cable thing is just a fake, just like a VGA to RCA connector.
You need a converter box for HDMI input to RCA out.
Only then you can get the media on your TV.

I use a cheap Measy media player, with both RCA and HDMI out, connected to my 32′ CRT TV through RCA. Even 360p videos are clear and sharp.

If the converter is not a cable, it will work. The difference is the signal that it carried. HDMI is using digital signal while RCA is using Analog Signal.
