Which laptops would you recommend for home use?

I’m looking for a model from a reputable company, with around a 14-inch screen, Windows 8.1, preloaded with an Office suite, good Random Access Memory and a good processor.

At first, you must have specified your budget as you might get some answers with such budgets that would seem uncomfortable to you. Then what work you want to do with your laptop also must have been specified.

Well, have a look at some of them below -

    Dell Vostro 14

    Lenovo Flex 2-14D [Hybrid laptop]

    Asus X550LD

Many internet experts said Asus' service is average but that doesn't mean they won't offer you service. If anything gets wrong with your hardware, you'll have to wait for 1 and a half month.

I didn't understood your (b) part fully, but as far as I'd understood, they make some compromises or corner cuts to meet demands of various people. They usually differ in processor,OS aspects.

If you want desktop without building it yourself(i.e. not assembled) then you can go with Dell as they are known for better customer service.

While buying laptops, you get limited sets of customized hardware and get as a whole whereas in desktop you can change many parts. In desktop, you can customize it as according to your own needs but it cannot be done in laptops.

Thanks. Please tell how come Asus is very reputed ( in list of top ten laptop brands and even desktop brands ) yet very cheap for same specs? Is the service that delayed ( one month as you indicated ) for a reputed company as Asus?

It might be some minor problem that got sorted out easily by them. But for big problems like motherboard fixing,it definitely takes longer time.
