How do I prevent my late 2013 MBPro from falling asleep when left inactive on battery? Specifically when I’m downloading files on uTorrent and leave my laptop on battery, it goes to sleep after ~10mins and the files stopped downloading.

one best solution is 'no sleep' app..
    its free & 100% efficient..
plus so very easy to use.. just a click on the icon in top bar & it is activated..

Caffeine can do this, it's purpose-built to stop your Mac falling asleep and it's completely free.

One of the best pieces of freeware for the platform :)

Both Hovsep and Jan solutiosn will work, but you can also set up a "hot corner" to prevent the Mac from sleeping (see http://www.macworld.com/article/2042242/what-s-hot-about-os-x-s-hot-corners.html).

You can change the power settings within System Preferences > Energy Saver. There will be two profiles (tabs), one for battery, one for power adapter when it is connected.

Personally, I would rather go with the following app. This way you only prevent sleep/standby when you want it to and don't have to regularly change the energy options.
    Caffeine (app) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/caffeine/id411246225?mt=12
