Can I use a Dell external hard drive for “Select Dell Systems” on a non-Dell computer?

I am interested in buying a Dell 1 TB External Portable Hard Drive for Select Dell Systems.

Although it says for “Select Dell Systems”, can I still plug this into a non-Dell computer and use it? It does, after all, connect via USB.

I’m just concerned that I would backup my Dell Inspirion 15R onto the Dell external HDD, only to have the computer crash, and then my files be un-accessible from other computers if I plug in the hard drive to them.

These are just standard external hard drives with a USB connection. They will work with any computer (and you can use any USB HDD on Dell PCs).

It will work on any system that has a USB 3.0 port. On some older systems with underpowered USB 2.0 ports, you could run into problems (not enough power available via USB to drive the motor).

are they rebranded hard drive for DELL? if they are Universal Storage Module (USM) then you can use it as portable hard drive if the pc/laptop has USM connector slot.
