How can I assemble my new computer myself?

?ÁV? ??? asks:

I am willing to buy a new computer and I want to assemble it myself. I have never played with hardware, though I am good at Windows troubleshooting.

Please give me step by step guide to assemble a new PC. Tell me which parts and cables to buy from market and how to connect them with each other to make them work perfectly.

I want to build a Core2Duo PC with 2GB RAM and 320GB hard disk.

Thanxx in advance for all your help…..

The easiest way is to get a DIY kit from NewEgg, TigerDirect, or other similar companies. These kits already have matched motherboards, processors, memory, etc to get the job done and you just have to put them together. NewEgg even has videos available online on their YouTube channel that show you how to put them all together. Here is part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw&feature=plcp

Make sure you use an anti-static wristband, most of the computer shops sell them and if you are lucky then you will get one with your DIY kit.

You need a socket 775 motherboard, maybe ASUS P5KPL will be enough.
Then buy a Core 2 Duo CPU on socket 775. be sure to buy matching RAM modules, on P5KPL you can install DDR2 modules with up to 800MHz . You can use either SATA or IDE HDD. Buy a case with at least 450W PSU. All the needed cables should come with the parts.
You can find videos of how to assemble a PC on YouTube.
One of the hardest parts is connecting the motherboard to case, because all cases have different cables.

Hi where are you in India? if you go to a bulk dealer you can choose what are all the components you needed according to its price and they will fit the products themselves together. i made one like this with dualcore and 500gb hard disk, lcd monitor and it cost me only 14k two yrs before, at that time my configuration costed 24k in branded. If you r in Chennai then ritchi st is the best place.

If you have no experience then starting off with a brand new bit of kit is a little silly – you’re likely to break it, and new kit ain’t cheap.

Why not get some experience with old machines first? Pick one up from the local trash dump – I don’t know how things are in India, but I can always scavenge something workable from the dump here in the UK – take it apart completely, put it back together. Swap out some components ; change the psu if you can find more than one.

You should not bee scared as it is quite an easy thing to do. Just make sure that all the components are compatible with each other before you start.If you get a big case then any Motherboard will fit. The two main factors are make sure that you screw the motherboard brass standoffs into the case before you put the motherboard in the case. Also put the CPU in the board then the CPU Cooler onto the CPU before you put the board into the case. Don’t forget to put some thermal paste on the CPU before attaching the cooling fan onto the board. Once this is done everything else will fall into place. Also put the PSU in first.

ok.. I’ll give you a step by step guide.

Step one:
Buy the following hardware for your pc
-> Core2Duo Processor ( Find a model that suites your Budget )
-> C2D Compatible Mother Board
-> Compatible System Memory ( Check what memory is supported by Mother Board )
-> 320GB HDD ( Go for SATA II / SATA III according to your Mother Board )
-> DVD RW Driver as your optical Drive
-> A stylish CPU Casing
-> A compatible Power Supply Unit

Step two:
Get the processor and the mother board unboxed and mount the Processor to the MB slot in the right pin direction. there will be a small arrow head on a side of the processor indicating the correct side of the processor. lock the processor with the lock that’s situated near the processor slot. ( don’t touch the pins or the processor contact any time ) not mount the processor cooling fan to the four holes on the MB and lock them.

Step Three:
Mount the MB to the casing that you purchased. screw it tight. after mounting the MB, Mount the System Memory ( RAM ) on to the MB, bt carefully look for the notch in the RAM slit and the RAM card. place it accordingly. lock it using the two locks that are on the RAM slot.

Step Four: Mount the HDD and DVD WR drivers to the Casing.

Step Five : Mount the Power supply unit and wire the 24 pin to the MB 24 pin connector. and connect all the Hardware with it’s respective connector. SATA Power connector will look Slim.

Step Six : Connect your DVD RW and the HDD using the SATA Data ( Slim Red Cables ) Cables provided with the MB. you wont have trouble finding the SATA ports in the MB.

Step Six : Connect your front panel according to the specifications give by the MB manufacturer.

Step Seven : Finalize everything and connect Monitor , Keyboard and Mouse so you can power on.

Step Eight : since this is a new PC there will be no OS so you’ll have to install it.

( I din’t tell you to buy a VGA since, you haven’t specifically mentioned that you are going for one. if you want to buy one, get a good VGA nd connect it to the PCI-E connector on the MB and connect your monitor to the VGA display out put. )

that’s all.

Components you want are rather old technology. Go with at least an Intel i3 or equivalent AMD CPU, ATX size compatable motherboard, 4GB DDR3 RAM and Sata III HDD. You also need a PCI-e 2 or 3 video card unless its integrated into motherboard, a DVD-RW, a case and PSU, a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Finally you need an operating system of your choice.
