After considering the cautions of Smayonak, you may also want to try Hotspot Shield.

The Publisher claims that by using it you can: "1. Access blocked services like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Skype in countries where internet is censored. 2. Keep hackers from stealing personal information while users are browsing internet on public locations like Starbucks. 3. Browse internet privately."

Keep in mind however that the Chinese government can be expected to have better tools than your average hacker.

Even in China, it should still be possible to access YouTube through a VPN/proxy server, although I would be very, very careful about where you're getting internet access from. If it's from a location where you can be identified, I would advise against it. Particularly if you're visiting sites that are critical of your host country.

A friend of mine in the know suggested using a combination of a proxy network and a VPN, which are both pretty much the same thing. The VPN routes traffic through a server. The proxy network routes traffic through a network of servers. Both should bypass a firewall. And they can be used together for extra protection.

Try the Tor Project's portable browser-proxy combo. There's no installation required. However, the servers associated with Tor get blocked on occasion, so this is not 100% reliable.

AnchorFree VPN supposedly works all the time in China. However, it's ad-supported, which can be a little irritating. Otherwise, it works great.

These two solutions can be used independently of one another, or in combination.

And then there are paid solutions:

    Good luck!
