Why do I have 13 more Windows Updates to install today after installing 88 yesterday?

poppy asks:

I had not updated Windows Vista for a long time. When I checked for updates there were 88 important updates, which I installed. Today I turned on my computer to check and see another 13 important updates, are they really needed? It’s only been 20 hours.

Yes, they are really needed. Some updates require other updates be installed first which is why you did not see them the first time around. After you computer has not been updated for some time, you should keep running Windows Update until it doesn’t find any more to install. It is the same type of deal as when you first install an older version of Windows (or Microsoft Office) for the first time. There will be multiple rounds of updates that need to be installed.

When the updates were released you should download and update them. Important updates are really needed although you’d installed some hours before.

Just install it, it is an update for your package related to security, add-ons, etc. May be it took many days in order to have an updated windows vista, when it come, just running cccleaner to clear all the junk file in your computer.

when you do not keep up with your updates this can happen. you do a update and it finds 88 updates needed. so you update and then it finds more updates. that is due to the time between updates.
here is a example. update 2 updates a .dll file and that update was Jan 2011 but in Sep 2011 there was another update to the same .dll. to get to the sep update you need to do the jan update first. you can not update to the sep one until the jan one.

that help?

To add to what Bruce has already said, what I do when re-installing Windows ( my update manager is always turned on) is to install the first round of updates then click on Windows Update and search for new updates again. Repeat this two or three times and you will get them all while you are working with your computer.
That way when I tun my machine off after the re-install, I know it is upto date.

PS
Once you have done all of that make sure your Windows update is set to automatic and you wont be so far behind with the updates.

to add something out of other said, just let it do automaticly n u dont have to do anything, update will always “annoy” u when u turn on computers. it is safer if u used original windows software. but incase of mine, i used pirate, i will disable any update cause, u know i will update with geniune advantage checking or something that in the last will shut the windows or will always have annoying bar below. i dont used vista, so i dont know how to give order how to make it auto. so unless u use pirate, just bear with it since the update will always be there until u install all update then it will slow down or stop at all in sometime.

if you installed 88 updates but some were not complete or successful, you will always get alert of updates. Now some are important and other optional and Windows update will let you know if they are important.

Microsoft releases updates on daily basis so you have to install the latest updates..

That is a behavior to expect from Windows Update because some update needs to be installed first than others (the second batch of update “depends” of the first one)

You should always update for many reasons

Some updates require other updates be installed first and also some updates may be found when you install and re-boot it searches for more updates and there may be new ones or there may be some optional ones which you may have not selected before.

Maybe you hadn’t installed some updates, Maybe Microsoft has launched some new updates, why are you so worried? Just take it easy, you are just getting some updates not malewares, that (update) will help you to keep your PC secure and reliable. So don’t worry, You had paid for updates when you bought a copy of windows so it’s your right to install updates not your headache

it is really needed.
The updates are mainly for security and bug fixes..major updates are released as service packs. Microsoft typically releases major patches and updates on second Tuesday of every month – this is good time for updating. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_Tuesday . I think it is good to configure your update period once a month, and I think it is not convenient to download every update windows offers, just download security update and some fixes only with selection.
i don’t think installing every update do any magic!!!!!

Some updates require other updates before they can be used.

Some of the 88 you installed then have an update on top of them

Microsoft releases windows updates normally on the second week of every month and yes some updates require to install their earlier versions. since you hadn’t updated your system for a while their is a chance that you might encounter the situation. Updating is very important since these updates contain security fixes and bug fixes of your installed software and it is necessary to update otherwise your system becomes vulnerable. There are some optional updates which you can left off but the recommended updates are compulsory…

Hello, simply put those are updates for the updates. Like others have said, these new updates become available once you install the previous updates.

Yes, you should definitely install these updates. The reason you only see them now is that sometimes updates require updates, which require updates (you get the point).

the 88 updates were dependent of your un-updated system and the new 13 updates are the dependent of your system with 88 updates
